Dashing in
a Car
Delivering with a car allows you to choose when to dash, take a wider range of orders than two wheels allow, and see the estimated earnings and distance for each offer before you accept.
*Available dash types vary by market, so select your vehicle type when you sign up and DoorDash will confirm what’s available in your area.

What car do you need to
deliver with DoorDash?
DoorDash doesn't set make, model, or year requirements to deliver with a car. So if you own a car and meet the Dasher requirements, you can use it to make deliveries.
Requirements to deliver with DoorDash with your own car include:
Meeting the minimum age requirement that applies in your state
A valid U.S. driver's license
A Social Security number
Auto insurance that meets your state's minimum requirements
Vehicle registration
A compatible smartphone
ID verification and a background check, which includes an MVR check for motorized dash types
Requirements can vary by state and market. See the full Dasher requirements for details.
Don’t own a car? You can dash on Bikes and eBikes, as well as on Scooters and Mopeds.
What to look for in a
delivery car
There's no best car for delivery drivers, and no model DoorDash requires. Many Dashers drive what they already own, from compact sedans to hatchbacks to small SUVs. If you're weighing one car against another, or thinking ahead to a used car, a few things make dashing easier day to day:
FUEL ECONOMY
Dashing happens in short hops around town. Dashers cover their own fuel costs, so city fuel economy may be worth considering.
BUILT FOR THE MILES
Dashing adds miles faster than everyday driving does. Cars with a reputation for reliability tend to be the ones Dashers keep longest, and they tend to hold their resale value better too.
COMFORTABLE TO SIT IN
Supportive seats, easy climate control, a clear view when you're backing out of a tight spot matter more than they sound like they would.
Your first delivery with
your own car

Your dash type tells the app which offers to send you. In the Dasher app settings, look for Dash Type, where you can add a vehicle and select Car.

Insurance and safety
Dashers are responsible for maintaining the auto insurance required in their state. Coverage terms vary by policy, and an insurer can confirm how a specific policy applies.
DoorDash also maintains certain coverage that varies depending on your state.

There isn't one best care for delivery drivers, and DoorDash doesn't require a particular make, model, or year. Most Dashers drive what they already own. City fuel economy and reliability at high mileage tend to matter more than any specific model, because dashing is mostly short local trips rather than long highway runs.
DoorDash doesn’t have any specific car requirements. If you want to sign up, you'll need to meet your state's minimum age requirement, hold a valid U.S. driver's license, have a Social Security number, carry auto insurance meeting your state's minimums, have vehicle registration and a compatible smartphone, and complete ID verification and a background check, which includes a motor vehicle record check for motorized dash types.
There's no age limit on your car. DoorDash doesn't set requirements around the age or model of the vehicle you use, so an older car works the same as a newer one as long as your license and insurance are valid.
Yes. Any car works, regardless of make, model, or year. A two-door is fine, though a hatchback or a larger trunk can make loading easier when you're carrying more than one order.
Yes, where other dash types are available. Bikes and eBikes don't require a driver's license in many states, and scooters and mopeds are options in some markets. Check Dash Type in your app settings to see what your area supports.
