Getting Started

With Shop & Deliver, customers can order from grocery, convenience, or retail stores, then have the order delivered straight to their door. Dashers who accept these opportunities shop in the store for the items that the customer ordered, pay with a Red Card at checkout, and then deliver the order to the customer.

You can sign up with DoorDash by filling in the sign-up section at the top of this page.


No, they’ll simply appear within the app as orders for you to accept or decline, just like any other delivery. With it, you’ll see the estimated payout.

Your pay for these orders will be shown on the acceptance screen. You can get paid more cash per dash on average compared to a regular delivery when you do the shopping.*


No, the store associate will not do the shopping. If you’re unable to find an item, you can ask a store associate for help.

Help for Existing Dashers

A Red Card is a physical or virtual prepaid card (i.e. card in your Apple Wallet or Google Pay) that enables Dashers to pay for Shop & Deliver orders at in-store checkout. You need a Red Card, virtual or physical, to complete Shop & Deliver orders (for more information, see here).


Here are a few tips from experienced Dashers who shop with DoorDash:

  • Item pictures in the Dasher App show what the product looks like. Tap to enlarge, zoom in, and check the description for flavor and size details.

  • Picking items: Choose items without mold, bruising, broken packaging, or dents (e.g., produce, meat, cereal boxes).

  • Packing items: Use insulated bags for fresh and frozen items to prevent spoilage. Pick frozen items last to keep them from melting.

  • Ask staff: If an item is missing, check with store staff. It may be in the back room or another location.

  • Communicate: If unsure about a substitute, confirm with the customer using chat or call to ensure they’re okay with the item and price.

  • Bagging & transporting items: Place fragile items (e.g., bread, bananas) on top of heavier ones to avoid crushing. Bag Produce and Meat & Seafood separately to prevent cross-contamination.
