Dash on a
Bike or eBike

No driver's license. No auto insurance. No gas. Bike and eBike dashing has fewer requirements than delivering with your car, and in a busy city it can be the fastest way to move.

*Available dash types vary by market, so selecting your vehicle type at signup lets DoorDash confirm what's available in your area.

What you need to dash on
a bike

The list is short, and none of it involves a car.

  • A bike or eBike.

  • Meeting the minimum age requirement that applies in your state

  • A valid government-issued ID.

  • A Social Security number.

  • A compatible smartphone.

  • ID verification and a background check.

Bikes and Ebikes don't require a driver's license, auto insurance, or vehicle registration, and the motor vehicle record check doesn't apply.

Requirements can vary by state and market. See the full Dasher requirements for details.

Have a scooter or moped? You can deliver with those too.

Why become a
Bike Dasher?

Two-wheeled dashing is on the rise—and so are the perks. With two-wheel dashing, you can beat traffic, cut costs, and earn more in urban areas.

Earn More

Bike Dashers can earn up to 10% more than Dashers who drive in urban areas.*

Meet High Demand

Two-wheeled deliveries have increased by 3x on DoorDash since 2022.

Green Deliveries

Bike dashing removes 155k tons of CO2 annually.

*Earnings reported for Dashers using two-wheeled devices in the top 20 US cities for deliveries in comparison to Dashers using cars in the DoorDash for Business 2026 Two-Wheeled Progress Report.

Where bike
dashing works

Two wheels tend to get framed as a downtown-only thing, not for residential areas. It works in both places, for different reasons.

Dense cities

Parking is often the slowest part of a car delivery. On a bike there's no circling the block, no garage, no meter. Bike lanes stay open when traffic doesn't, and a bike can get to the merchant door and the customer's building directly.

Neighborhoods

Residential runs are usually short. A bike covers a few blocks quickly, and door-to-door is faster when the drop-off is a house or a low-rise rather than a tower with a loading zone.

As a Bike Dasher, you'll receive priority for short-distance, high-demand deliveries in busy city zones.

Costs of delivering
with your bike

A car brings running costs that a bike doesn't have at all.

No fuel costs

$0. Stop-and-go city driving is where fuel costs add up fastest, and that whole line disappears on a bike.

No insurance and registration costs

$0. Bike and eBike dashing doesn't require auto insurance or vehicle registration, so there's nothing to carry or renew.*

Lower maintenance costs

Regular bike upkeep instead of oil changes, transmission work, and everything else a motor needs.

Choosing between a
bike and an eBike

Both are vehicle types that you can use to dash where they're available*. The difference is range, upfront cost, and local rules, not eligibility.

*eBike rules are set locally, so requirements vary by city and state.

Range and terrain

A motor takes the hills and the headwind out of it, which matters most on a long dash or in a city that isn't flat. A regular bike covers a compact, flat zone without any of that.

Upfront cost

Many Dashers already own a bike. An eBike is a purchase or a rental, which is where the partner discounts below come in.

Local rules

eBikes are regulated by city and state: battery certification, speed limits, and helmet.

eBike discounts

Bike dashing in the
Dasher app

Dx - Dasher App - Setting up your dash type

Your Dash Type tells the app which offers to send you. In the Dasher app settings, under Dash Type, a vehicle can be added and set to Bicycle or eBike.

That's also where availability shows up: depending on your local market, you may be able to use bikes to dash, and Dash Type reflects what your area supports. Once it's set, offers arrive sized for two wheels, meaning shorter distances and lighter loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike delivering by car, a driver's license isn't part of the Dasher requirements for bike delivery. A valid government-issued ID is what's needed: a driver's license, state ID, passport, passport card, permanent resident card, or employment authorization card. State law is separate, and some states require a license to ride an eBike.

In most states it's 18, in a few others states set at 19, and California requires 21 for new applicants. The full Dasher requirements have the breakdown by state.

DoorDash’s delivery bike requirements include meeting your state's minimum age requirement, a valid government-issued ID, a Social Security number, a compatible smartphone, a bike or eBike, and completing ID verification and a background check. The motor vehicle record check that applies to motorized Dash Types isn't part of it.

Yes, and they vary. Most states treat a compliant eBike like a bicycle, but some regulate them as motorized vehicles and require registration, a license, or insurance to ride one. Those rules come from your state and city rather than from DoorDash, so checking them before dashing on an eBike is worth the time.

No. Depending on your local market, you may be able to use bikes to dash. Dash Type in your app settings shows what your area supports.

Yes, where eBike is available as a Dash Type. Local rules around battery certification, speed, and helmets are set by your city or state rather than by DoorDash.

Dash Type doesn't change how pay is calculated. Before accepting, Dashers see the estimated earnings and the distance in the Dasher app, and Dashers receive 100% of tips. Pay also depends on the Dash mode selected, Earn per Offer or Earn by Time. Read more on how pay works.

Dashers who use bicycles don't need auto insurance. Auto insurance applies to car, motorcycle, and moped delivery. DoorDash maintains occupational accident coverage for eligible Dashers during active deliveries. Eligibility, scope, and limits are set out in the Occupational Accident Policy.

No prior experience is required. Dashers come from all backgrounds, and the Dasher app shows the details for each delivery.
